FAQ
Is Membership a requirement ? Yes, Due to certain internal club needs, membership is a requirement. However, the club has several membership classes and options. Shooters must become range members if they do not wish to become annual club members. The daily range membership fee is $5. A shooting round consists of 25 targets. Present shooting fees are set for trap/skeet at $4/round. The 5-stand fee is $7 per round for range members and $5/round for annual and tournament members. First time range member shooters will be given their first shooting round free as part of the range fee on their FIRST visit only; all subsequent rounds will be priced at $7 (5-stand) or $4 (trap/skeet). Junior members of the club (under 18 years of age) can shoot at $2/round for trap/skeet and $4/round for 5-stand. The Associate membership is currently $40/year.
What kind of equipment will I need ?
SHOTGUN, You will need a shotgun, preferably a 12 Gauge, however a 16 or 20 gauge will work depending on your agenda and ability.
EAR PROTECTION is available at the clubhouse for 25 cents
Optional Equipment Optional equipment would include a shooting vest, pouch to hold empty hulls and your shotshells, protective eyewear. We do not sell Vests at the club, however we have a few loaners available. Hats or other protective head cover are required when on the shooting lines.
How much will it cost to shoot ? Present shooting fees are for trap/skeet at $4/round. The 5-stand fee is $7 per round for range members and $5/round for annual and tournament members. Can I shoot Alone ? Yes, you can shoot alone on the practice trap, however, you will find the experience much more enjoyable and informative if you shoot with others. A full squad consists of 5 shooters, but any number from one to five may shoot.
What are the Safety Regulations ?
Never have a shell in the chamber of your gun except on the firing line when getting ready to shoot.
Never walk around with the action of your firearm in the closed position.
Never load more than ONE shell into the chamber unless you are shooting doubles, skeet, 5-stand or continentals.
Always use ear, eye and head (e.g. hat) protection.
Always unload your gun if trap help is approaching the trap house in front of you, if the the trap house lid is open, or if anyone is in front of you for any reason whatsoever.
Always leave the muzzle of your gun pointed downward until it is your turn to shoot.
Alcohol or drugs are not allowed on the firing line or before participating in a shooting event.
Smoking is not permitted inside the building.
What kind of shotshell should I use? The most common used shell is a 2 ¾ or 3 dram equivalent powder with either 1 oz or 1-1/8 oz shot. Shot size will most commonly be 7 ½ or 8. The maximum allowable trap load is dependent on the shot weight and limited to max velocity. A typical (maximum) load is 3 dram, 1 1/8 oz of No. 7 ½ shot.
Does the club have instructors ? No, sorry we do not; however, we have many excellent shooters to help you learn the sport and will explain how to shoot properly, what the procedure is, and point you in the right direction. The on-duty director will also be very helpful and informative.
How fast do the targets travel ? The trap targets will leave the trap house at approximately 42 miles per hour. Your shot will be traveling an average of 1150 feet per second, and you will be breaking the target at approximately 40 yards from where you are standing.
Who keeps the club running ?
The club is supported by an all-volunteer Board of Directors comprised of 13 Directors, four of whom are the club’s officers. Board members are elected at an annual meeting of the general membership in March of each year and serve a three year term.
Is there a minimum or maximum age limit? As long as a person is capable of handling their firearm in a safe manner, and capable of abiding by the safety regulations, that is all that is required. Younger children will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
What kinds of events happen at the club ? Most activities are, naturally, shooting related. Competitive shoots are generally held in June and on Memorial weekend as well as in late August. Turkey shoots take place in November and December and other small club events are put on by members throughout the year. This is a very brief description of these events. What types of sport shooting is available at the club ? Shotgun shooting activities include trap, skeet and 5-Stand (basically, a compact version of sporting clays).
